Free agent forward Charlie Villanueva made his choice between the LA Clippers and Dallas Mavericks, and reportedly inked a non-guaranteed deal with the Mavs.
Villanueva will try to win his job at training camp. Per ESPN:
The Mavs have 15 players with guaranteed contracts — the league’s limit for a regular-season roster — so Villanueva will have a difficult time making the team. He is a candidate to serve as a reserve stretch power forward, a role player the Mavs did not have on the roster after voiding Rashard Lewis’ one-year deal due to his need for knee surgery.
The 6-foot-11, 240-pound Villanueva, 30, has averaged 11.5 points and 5.1 rebounds in nine NBA seasons. However, his production plummeted after signing a five-year, $38 million deal with the Detroit Pistons that expired last season.
he still buys lunch if he runs in to joe dumars, right?
He is set for life anyways
That off-season where the Pistons overpaid for Gordon AND Villanueva was just awful, the Pistons still haven’t recovered.
Villanueva was not overpaid, he injured and recovered, but unfortunately that coach didn’t give him any minute at all, so he was benched, he still has gas in his tank, I think Dallas is great fit for him.
Nah, he was overpaid. He was at best, average. That shouldn’t get you $9m a season.
villanueva is not 6’11 i think? ..i think he’s 6’10..i found his pullup 3 shooting in some of his summer video pretty impressive
Ask Channing Frye that question. Those two are so similar anyways…
At least Frye is an elite 3 point shooting marksmen. With Charlie it was always more about the fact he had the ability to hit the three, but not always consistently, unlike Frye.
Of course Frye was overpaid, but at least you know what you are going to get out of him.
