Welp … Carmelo Anthony confirmed what everyone already knew (the most delusional of Knicks fans excluded.)
New York’s 41-year NBA championship drought will continue.
From the Puerto-Rican newspaper Primera Hora:
“This is a new beginning for me in my life. Although I’m back with the same team after my contract extension, for me it’s a new opportunity for the team and for the city,“ Caremlo Anthony said during his visit to Puerto Rico this week.
“I do not expect to win a championship this year. That’s something that takes time and everything has to be in sync, from management to players. We have much work to do, but something that drives me. I know we can start creating the foundation of what we do. It’s the start of a good process.“
“Next year we will have enough money to spend within the salary cap. But this year it is important to take the necessary steps towards those who will in the next year. I want to concentrate on building what we want from this year.“
Of course not he chose money over winning.CCan’t blame him though he probably had tears thinking about leaving all that money on the table
Melo needs to get a grip, Bulls was there for him to combine with Rose
to have the best 1-2 punch in the NBA or rival OKC and he took the
money. Will an extra 40 million dollars really change his life.
NOOOOOOO!!! I can’t root for Melo anymore, him going back to the Knicks
to me was too much about money than winning. Nobody wants to play with
Melo, you can’t make a case the Knicks with Love would be better than
Love on the Cavs. Melo needs another player to come and they will not,
but Melo missed out and will regret this the rest of his life. A ring or
money. Theirs a cost for a ring, even Lebron put away his pride/money
to get rings with the Heat. It worked and now he can sit back and do
what he wants. Melo your name will not matter 20 years from now, you
will be a add in, like remember Benard King could score, but he never
won anything. Melo this is your future, hope that exta 40 million
dollars, keeps that NBA Championship finger happy.
Melo also confirms that gravity might be real.
Translation: ‘Wifey is happy and I have more money than I know what to do with. Some things are more important than championships.’
The true super stars always think they have a shot
“Will an extra 40 million dollars really change his life. NOOOOOOO!!!”
Probably not but it can certainly help him directly change a bunch of other people’s lives
“Nobody wants to play with Melo”
So, it works out for everyone that he went solo in New York.
As a general rule, men should keep their eyes off of other men’s pockets.
Melo will never win a ring with the Knicks, its a given! Mark my words, toward the end of his career he’ll do a Gary Payton move and start ring chasing at vet minimums. (remember LA and MIA)!.. Didn’t work to well for Payton and I don’t see a different outcome for Melo.
Glove won a ring so if that was his objective (which it was) the outcome wasn’t too bad for him.
Full quote:
‘I do not expect to win a championship this year… and I don’t care if I ever do’
Let’s face it, If a championship was a priority, he’d be with the Bulls right now.
A bunch of salty bulls fans…
Melo did the right thing in staying home tryin to bring it home, and if no one wants to play with Melo those Bulls and other teams that wanted doesn’t really tell me people don’t wanna play with him. And also to add, some of the greatest players in the world doesn’t have a championship and if Melo doesn’t get one he won’t be the last!
i agree. melo does a lot of philanthropy work in red hook. he really does care about the neighborhood that he was born into. I didnt want melo to stay at first but honestly, I like him as a player and his work off the court. He will bring players to him also. I dont think players arent willing to play with melo given the way the bulls greeted him on his visit.
Only the true blue Knick fans will understand and cling to the hope of a long awaited crown… Melo is a New Yorker which is hard to understand for those who are raised and living out there.. out out there.
lol bulls fans saying rose is great let’s see if rose is healthy first. Knicks have tons of flexibility moving forward. He believes in the plan from Jackson and yes he took the money but always said it would take alot to have him leave new york.
Listen the bulls have a legacy that Jordan made, the Lakers have a winning legacy with major Johnson and kobe and other then the Knicks championship 40 years ago we have no winning legacy . Melo doesn’t want to be in anyone shadow if he wins a championship in New York he will go down as one the greatest players to bring a championship to the mecca madison square garden would mean ten times more respect then joining forces and bringing a chip to a team like the bulls is no know big deal in comparison. He did the right thing making his own path and staying with knicks and not being a follower.
Wow sounds like a Bulls fan feeling are hurt because Melo pick his hometown and 40 million more than Chi town. Melo is spending a lot of his own money on inner city youth in New York and in Puerto Rico youth and who ever says they will leave 40 million on the table is full of BULLS. Bottom line Bulls ain’t winning anytime soon the Cavs will be there road block as for the Knicks they have Phil Jackson running there program which every player in basketball respect so let see what happens in 2015 free agent class….
Dumbest comment I’ve read all day. Thanks “ses”.
You sound like a Chicago fan boy! Your mad at him for staying loyal to the city he was born in? Your mad at him for staying loyal to the team he was traded to? Your mad at him for being his own man and not joining forces with other stars to accomplish his championships aspirations a la lebron? Your mad at him for not leaning on the shoulders of practically 2 year injury prone player in 1 named Derrick Rose? Your mad at him for not leaving a BasketBall savant by the name of Phil Jackson with an accumulation of 13 rings from 3 different decades? Your mad at him for not leaving the city his wife was born in? Your mad at him for taking 120 million plus Max Contract? Your mad at melo for playing in the mecca city of basketball inside the worlds most famous arena? Your mad at melo for staying in 1 of thee biggest cities (marketing wise) allocated to any sports franchise? Should i continue? C’mon dude Leave Melo alone theres plenty of people who’ve won several championships that nobody is talking about right now!!! Remeber He never left Denver they were gonna trade him anyway!!.
Rich and realistic……good for you Melo…..now you can just concentrate on the season…..you’ll be fine…..the fans won’t but hey, can’t have everything…..but you’re pretty close…..congratulations to you for doing what most folks would like to…..getting your affairs in order…..
So if he’s going to be like Payton he’ll get the money & the ring! Does that pretty much sum up your comment?
A team with Carmelo Anthony will never win a ring….Players like him don’t win championships…A NY has 2 Melos…JR is the other one
First, he forced his way out of Denver, he wanted to leave to go to NY. Denver overall was a better team and the Knicks were actually better without Melo. They probably would have been able to get another star there who is team oriented if they did not mortage players and picks for a ONE MAN SHOW!!!. Melo will never be talked about 20 years from now, so you can pacific this comment section with all the questions. But the real question is, Melo was greedy, tried to do a home letter like Lebron, staying in a city he was borned in, not grew up, but he is happy. When the KNICKS do not make the playoffs and the NY media turn on him, lets see everyone give him a break, PLus Melo made his bed, you will change your tune in due time.
LOL .. what a ridiculous post. $40 will mean nothing to him? Would $40 Million mean anything to you?
Life worthless because he doesn’t have a ‘Ring’? A RING? LOL OMG! That’s taking this whole Championship, Ring thing a bit too high. 1st, of all you’d be a damn idiot to leave 40 Mill (if that’s even the figure) on the table just to win a championship. 2nd, people used to look up to you for sticking to your team and building a championship there. 3rd, Melo believes in what the Knicks have going now and would not have come back if we didn’t have a good plan and good pieces that can make this happen.
… I can go on and on about this post but we’ll leave it at that
Rose can’t stay health long enough … And for King James he went where talent already was … Let’s see how many rings he gets back at home ..
Stop drinking the red Kool Aid, when you are a millionaire like he is, more money doesn’t do anything. You can put the money away in accounts and his family kids, kids, kids can live off the money. I would educated you on the interest on monies, but really its no point. Also Knicks will never will a ring with Melo as there leader and you know this too. Melo does not believe in the Knicks, he believes in the MONEY the Knicks could offer. 40 Million to you and me is different than for him. Melo needs a ring, in the new NBA era or he will be Benard King 2.0, without the injury.
Well folks here I go: I do not expect to bang Rihanna this year. As a matter of fact, I do not expect to have contact with her, sexual or otherwise, for the foreseeable future.
You are misinformed. Melo was due to be traded. George Karl repeated numerous times and coined melo with the reputation as a ball stopper. Karl wanted a team that moves the basketball. Upon learning of his inevitable trade, he decided he wanted to be traded to NYC. Any which way he was going be traded and choose his own destination. Melo played in the Big East for thats right Syracuse a NY team. Obviously his ties to NY are stronger then they appear. O but let me guess derrick rose 20 years from now will be talked about and melo wont!!! At least he didnt leave and disappoint millions of supporting franchise fans like Lebron did not only to Cleveland but miami alike lol. He’s not being greedy he’s being patient. Cap space will free up next year and he will be the corner stone in the zen masters triangle offense. And anybody who watches ny basketball and knows ny media knows melo unlike lebron, melo said he will opt out of his contract then resign with knicks that very season. Melo is sleeping in a 120 million dollar bed, i bet hes very comfortable. I wont change my tune he’s been out of the 1st round just as many times with the knicks as he with denver.
How could you “educated” anyone with such poor grammar? jus sayin….
You sound like a hater honestly, the boy hasn’t even hit 25 and just because of 2 injuries he can’t stay healthy long? I do agree we need to see him more than a couple months this season before we can officially say he’s healthy again, but there really isn’t need for hate, he was the MVP 2 seasons ago and stopped lebrons streak, and now because he got injured all y’all wanna do is hate. That ain’t even a real basketball fan, you probably just hopping on the hate bandwagon
Call us in January when Rose is sitting out back to backs because of knee fatigue.
http://nypost.com/2014/02/07/three-years-after-knicks-deal-for-melo-still-no-clear-winner/
Nearly three years have elapsed since our Great New York MeloDrama Nightmare ended. Three teams, 13 players, four draft picks plus the right to swap a fifth and $6 million in cash crisscrossed the NBA landscape.
The heavyweights were the Knicks and Nuggets with the Timberwolves needed to facilitate the trade. The crown jewel in the extravaganza was Carmelo Anthony, who joined the Knicks after forcing a trade and signing a three-year, $65 million extension.
“Melo came in at the beginning of the season and said, ‘I want out.’ I thought they did a great job of making the best out of it,” then-Nuggets coach, now ESPN analyst George Karl said of the Denver brass. “They were dealt a nightmare and they turned it into a good dream.”
The Knicks gutted much of the rebuilding done by then-president Donnie Walsh. A future first-round pick didn’t seem as costly then as it does now — but it’s the pick in this year’s talent-rich draft. The Knicks, who had been rebuffed by LeBron James the previous summer, needed star power.
Along with King, names like Ewing, Stockton, Malone, Miller, Barkley, Hardaway, Kemp, Payton also never won a single championship but are still remembered long after their playing days and considered NBA royalty. Sounds like YOU’RE the one drinking the “red Kool Aid.” Get a grip, son.
THIS IS OLD THEY HAVE A GREAT CHANCE THE MEDIA DOESN’T KNOW CRAP THEY KEEP RUNNING STUFF LIKE THIS TO KEEP YOU READING BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Payton won a Championship in Miami.
Got that Knicks mentality down. Spend now, win later.
I will educate you, since you are worried about my grammar on a basketball site. Its called the Power of Compounding. It all pertains to invested cash, growth only and growth/dividend reinvestment. You can come up with nearly twice as much if you reinvest, rather than spend your dividends. A total cash commitment of around 250,000 over your career could wind up around eight times that size. In Melo’s case, money is not an issue, if he has good financial advisers around him teaching him how to invest to gain money.
Banks pay such a small amount of interest now a days that if he were to just put the money on an account he’d have less money in 10 years than he does today because of inflation.
Labron is a follower and a cry baby let’s see if he changes things in Cleveland. Melo is a Nyer and always will be and he found out that the Knicks wanted him and needed him more. So hate all you want but Memo is here for the long haul.
Melo committed to the Knicks for 5 years. LeBron signed a 2 year deal with an option to leave after ONE YEAR. Who’s the fake? Oh, and don’t forget the Miami speech. “..not two, not three, not four…not five..”. No. It was two. Could’ve stopped at two. Now they’ve gutted the Cavs to make LB happy. Could work out or in 2 to 3 years Cavs fans could be watching James play for someone else while Wiggins, Bennett and whoever next year’s #1 is are developing into a nice future for the Timberwolves. LeBron playing for a first time NBA coach without Pay Riley to hold things together. This could get messy.
All the pundits and Chicago fans said Melo should go to the Bulls because of Rose. Derrick Rose hasn’t been healthy in the past three years but, suddenly now he’ll stay healthy and play all season? Oh and for those who say $40 million doesn’t make a big difference, you’ve never had that kind of money… and if you did, my bet is you’d take it. Lastly, bringing a championship to NYC would mean a lot more than LA, Chicago or Miami.Knicks in 2014 Well be better, by 2015 they WILL BE something special.
Great post, one additional thing. Melo didn’t take the max deal, he left over 5million on the table which, added to the cap space that will be there after Amare and Bargnani are gone, will allow the Knicks to sign another max player next year (maybe even LeBron). Phil has this ship going in the right direction and with Fish as his coach, a guy who was playing yesterday, things are looking bright.
OMG. You took a FIN100 class at your community college (or know how to google :) probably the latter. Apologies, because I didn’t know that you were in Anthony’s close knit group to know that “money is not an issue.” Not worried about your grammar: jus sayin the obvious, that you saying you wanting to “educated” us with your grammar being so poor makes you an idiot. jus sayin…again… Have a highly profitable day, son.
I don’t care what Melo says, Knicks are gonna win it all.
You should learn about investing if you really believe that
he chose money over championship possibilities in chicago this year
Aww crap. yup he did. did he even play that year? thanks for the correction. I’ll go check on the other guys I listed. point being to the guy above is that many great players never won a championship and it isn’t GUARANTEED. (Malone & Payton going to the Lakers for example, also Miami this year!)
Brother Francois, thank you. He’s made cause he knows Melo was what Derrick Rose needs to even get close to winning a championship. He’s mad cause he knows Phil Jackson will build around Melo and create another championship caliber team. Bottom line….He’s Just MAD….
Melo haters only say things they think will justify their hate for him. Just say I don’t like Melo and leave it at that. Don’t use incorrect or totally false information….
Knicks have this weird stigma about them, they have talented players but win anything relevant.
wheover said lebron aint fake? The fact you got to compare Melo to Lebron looks more suspect on Melo than it does Lebron. Bron is as fake as they come!
when vegas doesnt even have you making the playoffs its pretty obvious that you dont really have to spend a single thought on winning a championship anyway.
yes he did play that year, and he played a crucial role in that Heat victory. He hit the big shot in game 5 i believe.
“Not one, not two, not three…not any. Ever. At all”
Lebron already said he isn’t leaving Cleveland anymore, both lebron and melo are great players. Just all watch basketball damn it
With the banks paying such a low yield on interest rates he’d actually have less buying “power”, the true actual value of money would have increased buy whatever the rate of the interest rate was minus any fees to maintain the account. Just to educate you further on you math skills, (The Seed)
with “compounding” interest if you only put in 250K and had a 4% rate (1% over inflation) of return in whatever kind of imaginary account you pick without adding any new principle over a ten year period for his career your grand sum would only be $335,979.09. That would generate a $85,979.09 increase to the fund. if you want to look at it as a whole, it would be a 34% increase in the total account value from start to finish. Compounding math works great, but no where close to your claim of 8 times or a 2 million dollar grand total. Sorry, dude but your wrong!
A lot of people complaining about Melo staying in NY and not joining D. Rose and the Bulls. But if it were reversed and the Knicks were in a better situation than the Bulls and recruited D. Rose, would they look at Rose like he was wrong to choose his home town???…It’s usually non-Knick fans or non-New Yorkers that complain the most. While he plays for the Knicks, they”ll call him a ball hog or a cancer to a team. But when he became a free agent, he was the missing piece for their favorite team…lol…Face it, even when the Knicks are TERRIBLE, they play in front of a sold out crowd. He is the biggest star in one of the biggest basketball markets (which happens to be his and his wife’s hometown), with one of the biggest contracts, playing for one of the greatest basketball minds EVER…Y’all act as if it was REALLY a dumb decision…
Let’s give this a little time.basketball fans!! I am and have always been a Knick fan and I remember the 2 times they won it all. Phil was there at the time.. He
has a Knick ring and a few Bulls and Lakers rings…I think next season will be the year that will determine if,and when Phil Jackson will also have multiple N Y Knick rings….give him time to rebuild the crumbled empire!!!
Dude I got a bba in finance.
Not to mention the fact that he won’t really be making more money with the Knicks. NYC has some of the HIGHEST – if not THE highest overall taxes in the country. For those of you that don’t know, we play STATE and CITY tax plus a high sales tax. So his extra money is just going to the taxes. This wasn’t about money at all. It was about him going NY or bust to get a championship. And worst case, when his contract ends he can go the way of other players and sign on as a utlity guy for a team that is contending later on. :)
Yeah on nominal terms he’d have more money. In real terms he’d have less. Realistically what’s the yield you can get on a savings account? .95% annually? Ideally we’d have inflation at around 2%. In real terms, he’d have less money if he left the money on a savings account. A certificate of deposit would offer a yield above inflation tho.
you’re talking like he’s a billionaire…
and you’re talking like you know what it’s like to be rich and leave $40 mil on the table…
apparently 40 million dollars can change your life. melo might not win a ring but bottom line is money is still the most important thing for them. i bet your just jealous that you cant have that much money. going to bulls is not a good idea. being patient with the NYK for me is the best fit for him. and staying in his home. probably your a melo hater. HAHAHA!
no body hate him. its just he just haven’t got people trust yet about the injury. knee problems are very bad. it can destroy your career. look what happen to Brandon Roy
Nice name, but Melo messed up, lets revisit this 5 years from now.
Follower and Cry baby? that doesn’t sound like LeBron, he just saw the writing on the wall, increasingly the Heat became like his Cavs teams. Wade took 1/3 of the season off and still couldn’t make,it though Four games in the NBA Finals, his legs had no explosiveness and he got abused by Manu, Danny Green
Bosh, became a spot up shooter who didn’t like playing down low, leaving them with nobody to bang down low with Hibbert, Duncan, Duncan at the age of 39 pretty much outplayed him”.
Plus, the bench was old and ineffective…
LeBron laughs with his 2 rings :)
You know , D.Rose is a different situation for one he’s only 25, now if Bulls Organization wasn’t doing enough to build a supporting cast around him I don’t believe many would blame him for leaving, it’s, like, with Kevin Love….
, Melo’s situation is different, he only stayed for money, despite knowing both Chicago and Houston offered him a better chance to win now, and if Chicago was able to offer him 100 mil, I don’t think,Melo would be in NY now…
That’s the only reason Melo is not playing for Chicago…
TOO LATE!, You silly Knicks fan had your chance get ready for Cleveland Dynasty!!!!! They give LeBron the best opportunity to compete for rings in the next 5+ years. He will likely match, Kobe, and Magic or win 4 rings.
Melo, will stay ringless forever ):
and next year and the year after and another year until he leaves and goes to Cleveland.
you’re*
“when you are a millionaire like he is, more money doesn’t do anything”
Millionaires dont become millionaires thinking like that. ever.
‘Melo and Rose would not be the best 1-2 punch lol. Durant and WB, Lebron and Love, CP3 and Blake, James Harden and Dwight are all better. I’d even argue for Kawhi Leonard and Timmy D/Tony Parker is probably better as well. Aldridge and Lillard are probably right there, too.
‘Melo will never play for a championship caliber team.
Who cares what he said. He’d do it.
He doesn’t deserve the money. If he did, it would be another story entirely.
Payton had his moments in the series
That’s your opinion and you know what they say about those….I’m sure if you could see the future you’d pick the winner lottery numbers. BUT, HATERS GOTTA HATE…:)
Your right, still a profit, I embellished the profit by talking about the dividend increase too much, but there is still a profit.
Cleveland,in case you haven’t noticed, has YET to prove whether or not they will become “a dynasty”.. A coach who has never coached ONE NBA game, and has yet to prove what he is capable of teaching defensively at the NBA level. An overpaid Kevin Love who also has not proven that he is a good defender, especially for his size. Just because LBJ(who I admire and respect) is on a team,it doesn’t make it a “dynasty”..Look what happened to ‘dynasty’Miami when they faced the Spurs! Would have been a sweep if Spurs made free throws in the one game that they lost!!!
I’m not a hater. I respect ‘Melo and I’m happy for him he made the best decision for him and his fam I certainly don’t know if I’d turn down 40 million for the chance to compete, especially with DRose health. And I exaggerated, ‘Melo might play for a championship caliber team, I have faith in Phil, but he will not be the center piece.
We’ll have to see all the pieces Phil brings in. Right now Melo is the center piece by default because he’s the best player on the roster. We’ll see what’s what in two months….
