LA Clippers All-Star forward Blake Griffin went up on stage during open mic night at the legendary Laugh Factory in Los Angeles Tuesday night.
It was part of an ongoing campaign for Vizio, and Griffin read from skits that premiered as ads online this week.
Per Fox Sports:
Griffin was the fourth act in a building where the late Robin Williams, Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey, Chris Rock, Jimmy Fallon, Ellen DeGeneres and so many others have done their routines.
Griffin was well received, even if it was just a small crowd. He wasn’t nervous. […] “No, because I was able to look down and reference and read,” Griffin said. “It’s a little different being on stage like that by yourself.” […] “The first laugh is always key,” Griffin said. “I’ve done some improv stuff. Once you get your first laugh, you’re good. Up until that point it’s a little nerve-racking.”
“It’s amazing you can come here and catch an amazing comedian on any random night,” Griffin said. “That’s what’s great about a place like this, being Los Angeles, and going to comedy clubs.”
He played home games in the same venue as the Lakers. He should have plenty of material.
dude is not funny at all, not even close.
Griffin disses artform of standup-reads material from piece of paper. #sticktobball
I bet he’s one of those that says phrases like “that’s what she said” a lot!
Bazinga!
Mitch Hedberg
He should of went up there dressed as howdy doozy, and let laughter inssue!
He shot free throws for 15 mins?
“This one time, when I jumped along the hood of a car…”
…
“I saw Kobe pass to an open Nash… that couldn’t be right….. Nash is an assistant coach right?”
…
(finishes with) “stand here for a second and pretend your Timofy Mozgov…”
I think the dude has good comedic timing based on his commercials. Little nuances like eye movement and a tilt of the head at the right time seem natural for him. Sure he is coached and directed but I think he has that natural ability as well.
I laughed, thought it was pretty funny. Talented cat
Blake was one of the first guests on ‘The Champs’ podcast and has hung with comedy nerd darlings at UCB. He’s learnt from the best, I like his instincts. Best of luck to him, he’s a good fit in LaLa land.
